Idiopathic Neonatal Haemochromatosis: A Case Report
نویسنده
چکیده
A case of neonatal hemochromatosis is reported in a premature 35-week infant who presented at birth with coffee ground vomiting and gradual appearance of grayish icter and colorless stool. Neonatal hemochromatosis was confirmed by elevated ferritin levels and extrahepatic siderosis detected in liver biopsy.

Idiopathic haemochromatosis is a disorder which has a well-known association with chondrocalcinosis. We report arthritis associated with chondrocalcinosis as the first clinical manifestation of underlying haemochromatosis in two otherwise asymptomatic male patients. In one patient, pyrophosphate arthropathy presented with acute pseudogout. Better appreciation of this presentation will result in...
متن کاملNeonatal haemochromatosis with reversible pituitary involvement.
Neonatal haemochromatosis is a rare alloimmune gestational disease with a high mortality. The hallmark of neonatal haemochromatosis is severe neonatal liver failure associated with extrahepatic siderosis. Thus far, no pituitary dysfunction has been reported to result from the tissue damage associated with extrahepatic siderosis. The present report describes a neonate with neonatal haemochromato...

Chylothorax is the most common cause of pleural effusion in neonates. It is usually idiopathic. Neonatal chylothorax successfully respond to octreotide treatment and can reduce the duration of hospitalization. A number of therapeutic interventions have been used to reduce chyle production and promote resolution of a chylothorax. Initial management typically includes restriction or temporary ces...

Neonatal haemochromatosis, also known as neonatal iron storage disease is a rare disease in which severe liver injury of foetal or perinatal onset is associated with massive intrahepatic and extra hepatic deposition of iron. Iron deposition typically affects the liver, salivary glands, heart, pancreas and thyroid but spares the reticuloendethelial system1-5. It presents with acute liver failure...
متن کاملA pathological study of idiopathic haemochromatosis and its relationship to siderosis in liver cirrhosis.
HAEMOCHROMATOSIS refers to a general increase in body iron stores with tissue damage. The pathological criteria used for the diagnosis of haemochromatosis were those proposed by MacDonald and Mallory (1960). They were as follows: 1. Cirrhosis of the liver of a "portal type". 2. Excessive iron deposits in hepatic parenchymal cells, in connective tissue, and in bile duct epithelium. 3. Pancreatic...
